Summer Camp 2010

Commentary by David Zimmer

For the serious Martial Artists, Summer Camps offer a venue for exchange of ideas, intense training, and some serious down time.   At Hanshi Alexander's Summer Camps one will find all three.   This year found several Martial Artists from around the world converging to the little Hamlet of Reliance Tennessee.   This remote location offer solitude to mend the soul, and a great facility to train and learn.

Over the years that I have attended these camps, I have learned much from the vast Master instructors that have graced the Honbu Dojo.  I continue every year to attend this event which seems to grow every year.  This leaves a multitude of Karnataka with which to train in the many disciplines taught by these Master instructors.  This year was the largest group of Karnataka ever.  Intense training from several traditional Martial Arts activities such as Karate, JuJitsu, Kendo, Kobudo, KenJutsu, and a new spin on old school - MMA.  So informative, exciting, and entertaining is this camp that many participants already have reserved their spot for next year's camp.

While serious training abounds, there are three events that allow the hard working Martial Artists the opportunity to revel on Camaraderie and good old fashion fun.  These are the Watermelon Kumite Competition, the Saturday Evening Dojo Party, and a White Water Rafting Trip down the wild Ocoee River.   Many O tales are created at these events and some party activities that one may wish to forget.   But the Bards of the event will not let sleeping dogs lay, and are quick to remind one of adventures from previous quests.

So it is again that these events are heralded in living color through picture and video.   Enjoy a small sampling of transpired events and book your trip for next year to mark you own adventures at this truly one of a kind Martial Arts Summer Camp.
