Two new books

TheMaster Swordand the other is theNewWarrior Spirit! These are real swords and are sharp (shinken). The Master Sword sells for$600.00.We have it on sale for$500.00. It is very attractive and is a high quality blade. It is manufactured using the Damascus style of folding the blade many times. TheNew Warrior Spiritsells for$300and is on sale at an introductory price of$250.00. TheNewWarrior Spiritis an excellent value.I like the balance of this blade in particular. It comes with either a black or red handle. [I grabbed one for myself and have used it to cut bamboo already.] If you are looking for a higher quality blade go with theMaster Sword. Both are good swords and can be used for kata as well as cutting.

Action Martial Arts Trade Show & Awards

By

George Alexander

Alan Goldberg and Peter Ticali put another great event together this year at the Tropicana Hotel in Atlantic City, New Jersey. This years trade show was a bit smaller due to space limitations but the show had a good turn out. The place was alive with energy with lots of stars and martial arts personalities! There were lots of seminars including my own which featured white crane karate and jujitsu. The attendees worked onniseishikata andsuparinpeikata as well as takedowns, joint locks and pressure points. Dana Abbott and Dan McAdams gave a high-energy sword class.

The guys (Doug & Jimmy) from the new showFight Questwere there along with many others including, Gary Alexander, Joe Hess, Gary Wasneiwski, Hank Garrett (Car 54 Where Are You? & Three Days of the Condor), Michael Jai White who has been in many films. Hes a really cool guy and a real martial artist. His celebrity has not gotten to him at all and he is definitely one of the guys. Look for him in Undisputed 1 & 2 and Blood & Bone. Another guy with lots of talent and a humble attitude is Phillip Morris. He is just a terrific guy, a good martial artist and a great actor (Mission Impossible). We hung out a bit at the trade show along with Grand Master John Pelligrini and Frank Huff. Don The Dragon Wilson, Bill Wallace and Michael DPasquale were there.Shihan Tony Calvino came all the way from Los Angles to promote his Martial Oceans Cruise. The cruise will depart this year from San Diego on July 17thand stop at Cabo San Lucas Mexico. There will be lots of partying, seminars and fun aboard the Carnival cruise shipElation.Cynthia Rothrock made an appearance at the trade show as well. In fact, our Yamazato booth was right next to hers. Sorry if our DVDs were playing too loud! We were playing the new trailer off the website. You can see if you go towww.yamazato-videos.comThe lovely and beautiful Melissa from Aznar weapons was there with her fine line of weaponry and swords.www.aznarweaponry.comGrand Master Vince Marchetti from New Jersey was in attendance along with Alan Goldbergs teacher Jason Lau. All in all the trade show was a lot of fun even though it was a bit smaller this year. Although, I think it was better. It reminded me of the old dojo parties we used to have in the 80s. Whoa!

The banquet that evening was well attended. Alan Goldberg has the largest hall of fame banquet in the country with close to 1,000 attendees this year. Michael DPasquale, who always does a great job at hosting this event, was the master of ceremonies. There were many awards given out to lots of new folks. My old recon buddy Sensei Reno Morales was there and Grand Master Maurice Elmalem. Somehow all the members of the famedMondo Silente Dive Teamwere seated at the same table. Trouble! This included myself, Tony Calvino, Kevin Cullen and Dana Abbott. I cant say we were the most well behaved table but we did get the award for the rowdiest table. Thanks Alan and Peter for putting together another great show. Cant wait to do it again next year.

After leaving Atlantic City it was then on to New York City. First stop was Chinatown. As many times as Ive been there I have always found this place fascinating. Stopped in to see my old friend Kevin Hung atBok Lei Po. This is a martial arts supply store on Mott Street started by his uncle thirty-five years ago. The store is well known in the New York/ New Jersey area as a Mecca for martial art devotees. Later, it was off to the French Culinary Institute on Broadway and the restaurantLEcolefor an exquisite luncheon. We dined on escargot and shrimp-covered gnocchi. Notice I said luncheon and not lunch. At these prices it was definitely luncheon. Actually, it was fairly reasonable considering the quality of the meal and New York prices. That evening I went to see my friend Chan. He is a specialist in acupressure massage and reflexology. If you are into pain he is the man to see. He gave me an hour and a half of deep acupressure massage that had me reeling in agony the whole time. But the game I play is to never let him know how much it hurts. He started at my head using his thumbs to stimulate the point at the top of my head at the cranial suture. This is GV 20 (Governing Vessel 20 orPaihuiin Chinese). It is ayangpoint that starts the flow of energy (See:Bubishi Martial Art Spirit, Alexander & Penland, Yamazato Publications). Although painful it was quite refreshing when it was over and I never screamed once. We then did somechi gungexercises. I thanked Chan, bit him farewell and was soon on my way. After that it was over to visit with Sifu Shi Yan Ming at the USA Shaolin Temple (http://www.usashaolintemple.org). He is a very personable fellow and welcomed me to watch some of their classes. The thing that impressed me the most was their degree of flexibility and their dedication. They practice Shaolin kung fu, tai chi and chi gung. During one of the classes several members of the class dropped into a full split effortlessly. Only one fellow screamed as two of his classmates, one on each ankle, grabbed and pulled as his legs spread apart. Sifu Ming found this amusing! My kind of guy. I was definitely inspired and will start working more on stretching. See! There is always something good to take away from Chinatown in New York City no matter how many times youve been there.
