Greetings fellow
martial artistes’. Sorry we are a bit late getting this newsletter out.
This summer has been very busy. Spent some time in Rapid City, South
Dakota doing a jujitsu and sword seminar for sensei
Mutch Usera and his students and
instructors. Had a great time with these guys. They are very capable and
accomplished at jujitsu. They can fly through the air! This was my first
trip to the Black Hills of South Dakota. After our training we got to go
see the Mount Rushmore monument and it was very impressive.
Got to do a seminar
for Sensei Michael Garner in
Knoxville, Tennessee. He has a great dojo and marital arts museum there.
Next stop was Dr. Jerry Beasley’s Karate
College in Radford, Virginia. Jerry is a great guy. We got to
work on some Hakutsuru Kenpo Karate, Pressure Points and Jujitsu.
Enjoyed talking with Bill Wallace, Jeff Smith and others. Met a few new
folks too.
Then it was on to
Las Vegas and the Century Super Show.
Got to meet Dan Bower the
President of Century. He is a Tae Kwon Do practitioner and former
student of Jhoon Rhee. But now he is avidly pursuing the study of the
sword. He is training with sensei Dana Abbott.
The Super Show was fabulous. Of course what’s not to like about Vegas
baby? Did spend some time with Dana Abbot and
Dan McAdams.
Chip Townsend was there also. We had
a great time with Chip and his wife on the Martial Oceans cruise last
year. Chip is a Tae Kwon Do black belt out of Dallas, Texas and an
impressive guy. He holds several world breaking titles and is a superb
athlete. At the Super Show there was someone selling a stand that held
targets for kicking and punching. The seller was encouraging people to
kick it and punch it. There were a bunch of guys standing there with
plenty of tattoos and muscles. Chip walked up to this thing and hit it
with some incredible combinations of flying kicks that knocked the
machine silly. The seller then had to stand on one end of the machine to
stabilize it. Meanwhile the muscle heads looked on in awe. It was a
beautiful thing to see.
Getting ready to
blast off again. This time headed for Orlando. Doing a seminar for
sensei Todd Spencer this Friday and Saturday. Friday night will be
Shorin Ryu Karate. Saturday will be Hakutsuru Kenpo, Jujitsu and Kobudo.

it’s on to the Battle of Atlanta. July 28th. Summer Camp is
coming up August 10th, 11th & 12th and everyone is
very excited about it (See below). Hanshi Rudy Crosswell will be
teaching among others.

to Okinawa. Got some
good training and sightseeing lined up.

White Crane News
We recently finished shooting White Crane Speed & Evasion Vol 6. This DVD has the last two kata (Seiunchin and Sepai) of the Okinawa Hakutsuru Kenpo System on it. Both these kata are referenced in the Southern Shaolin temple as white crane forms. Will be ready to ship in two weeks. There is a Vol 7 planned that will have push hands and hojoundo. The hojoundo or supplemental exercises include the use of chi ishi (stones mounted on a stick), nigiri game (jars used to develop gripping strength) and ishi sashi (stone padlocks) and other training implements and how to use them. It will also include makiwara training and body conditioning.

We recently received a new
shipment of swords in from Asia. They are called
“The Lightening Cloud Katana.” One style is the
Master Sword and the other is the
Warrior Spirit!” These are real
swords and are sharp (shinken). The Master Sword sells for
$600.00.We have it on sale for $500.00. It is very attractive and is a
high quality blade. It is manufactured using the Damascus style of
folding the blade many times. The Warrior Spirit sells for $200 and is
on sale at an introductory price of $150.00. It is a 440 stainless steel
blade. I looked at both of these when they came in and I prefer the
Warrior Spirit. I like the balance of
this blade in particular. It is a good value for the money. [I grabbed
one for myself and have used it to cut bamboo already.] If you are
looking for a higher quality blade go with the
Master Sword. Both are good swords
and can be used for kata as well as cutting.
